Each Week:

Spelling:

1.  Research shows that memorizing lists of words, or copying words from lists, do not help children become better spellers.  The UFLI program focuses on learning phonics patterns, and applying those to the spoken word.  Students are encouraged to use the Home Practice sheets to help prepare for upcoming spelling tests.  The program is on a 5 day cycle, so watch the weekly newletter for the next testing date.  The Home Practice pages will be sent home a couple days before the test.



Reading: 

1.  Reading books will be sent home once per week.  Please listen to your child read their assigned stories for that week, and sign and return the parent slip.


2.  A list of high frequency words, and vocabulary words for each story will be sent home the Friday before we start working on each new lesson.  Please encourage your child to practice reading these words occasionally, until they can read them easily.


Math:  

Please help your child practice their Math facts 3 times per week for about 3-5 minutes.  


Science / Social Studies / Health

As we prepare for our test at the end of each unit, we will send home a study guide (about 2 days before the test), and sometimes flashcards for the students to use at home to study.  Please help your child use these to be certain they are prepared to take the test.

  1. Los libros de lectura serán enviados a casa una vez por semana. Escuche a su hijo leer sus historias asignadas para esa semana, y firme y devuelva el recibo de los padres.
  2. Se enviará a casa una lista de palabras de alta frecuencia y vocabulario para cada historia el viernes antes de comenzar a trabajar en cada nueva unidad. Anime a su hijo a practicar la lectura de estas palabras de vez en cuando, hasta que puedan leerlas fácilmente.

Matemáticas: Ayude a su hijo a practicar sus datos de Mighty Math 3 veces por semana durante aproximadamente 3-5 minutos, y devuelva el comprobante firmado por los padres. Cada jueves se realizará una verificación de los hechos y su nivel de práctica actual se enviará a casa todos los viernes.

Ciencia / Estudios sociales / Salud:
Mientras nos preparamos para nuestra prueba al final de cada unidad, enviaremos a casa una guía de estudio (aproximadamente 2 días antes de la prueba) y, a veces, tarjetas para que los estudiantes las usen en casa para estudiar. Ayude a su hijo a usarlos para asegurarse de que están preparados para tomar el examen.
